Val d'Isère Information Services

This winter season in Val d'Isere saw the successful implementation of the planned pay-for-access wireless system that was planned during the summer of 2008.

The trial was completed out of the premises of our clients VSpot and consisted of a secured internal network on a separate subnet and a wireless network available to the public. Access to this was controlled using a FreeRADIUS instance running on one of our servers in London in conjunction with a website (with backend Paypal integration) and a Linksys router that was running the Coova access point and Coovachilli.

Using the same technology we were able to provide our client with a free wifi system for use on their premises but with some interesting new twists - though this was a free wifi hotspot there were strict quotas enforced on bandwidth usage which prevented abuse of the system leading to the performance degradation typical of free wifi hotspots (especially those in residential areas). It also allowed our clients to harvest email addresses from those who wished to sign up to be contacted by the VSpot regarding upcoming events, promotions etc.

Attached are two PDF documents explaining in English and French the basis of the technology and were a component of the original client pitch.
